I knew Stuart first from rugby and later as a teacher to my three daughters - all of whom found him to be an able and talented teacher and well thought of by us all.

My daughter Alison attended Cowdie and Wellington Academy. She had the utmost respect for Mr. Smyth as I did. She lives in America now, she will be saddened by the news. We send our deepest sympathy to his wife and his three boys. God bless.

The Purdie family would like to over our condolences to you all on the sad passing of Stewart. Our daughter Kiera and our son Cameron, were taught maths by Stewart at Inverclyde Academy and had great admiration and respect for him as their teacher. Kiera in particular was given a lot of support from Stewart in the first two years of high school life. We hope as a family it helps you to know that others are thinking of you all at this sad time. RIP Mr Smyth Gone But Not Forgotten. XX
