Workers are dressed to kilt

WEARING IT WELL: Kevin Leitch, 17, from Greenock, was so thrilled with the high-visibility kilt that he danced a Highland Fling.

CONSTRUCTION workers made sure they were a SITE for sore eyes in Greenock this week.
The Tele popped out to see the workers road test new high-visibilty kilts at a site in Gibshill, where home firm Persimmon are building new houses.
Site phwoar-men swapped construction for the catwalk for a day as they modelled the kooky creations.
Willing workies made sure their equipment was secure as they posed on-site for us on Thursday.
Kevin Leitch, 17, from Greenock, wore his with pride. He said: “I think the kilts are great but the colour is a bit too crazy for me.
“They’re dead practical — I could fit all my tools in no bother. I think loads of people would wear them, they’re a great idea.
“You can’t really be a true Scotsman though — it’s a bit too dangerous for that on a building site.
“They’re good for making you visible if you’re out working at night. The rest of the guys on the site think they’re really good and would be up for wearing them.”
The high-visibility kilts were manufactured by Swedish workwear manufacturer Blåkläder. Their Craftsmans kilt has been available in the UK for around a year.
The garments we got hold of were commissioned by a Swedish construction company — but are sure to be a hit here too.
Jeff Adams, UK sales manager for Blåkläder, said: “These kilts were designed for people working on the roads in the summer, so they keep you nice and cool. They make sure you’re noticed and keep you safe.”
