A SICKENED mum has hit out at yobs who stole her sons’ costly sports gear from the washing line.
Gillian Whyte, who has three boys, hung out the clothes — including a Nike AirMax tracksuit top and Real Madrid tracksuit bottoms — on the drying green on Friday afternoon.
But when she went back to bring them in, she noticed the tracksuits, a pair of jeans and even two pairs of black socks, were missing. The items were worth a total of £100.
Single mum Gillian, 41, who lives in Belville Avenue, Greenock, told the Tele: “I’m sick of it. This is not the first time it’s happened. They’d actually moved the washing around and covered up the spaces so I wouldn’t notice.”
Gillian blames a lane at the side of the building which allows access along the drying greens at the back of the tenement for the thefts.
She added her neighbour had spotted a young girl walking down the street wearing the top with her boyfriend who said ‘It fits you to a tee’ that afternoon.
Her son Lee, 14, said: “I’m raging. I can’t wear my Real Madrid tracksuit without the bottoms.”
Gillian, who has also become a grandmother to twin boys, said: “I’m out knocking my pan in doing 12-hour shifts to buy these things for my family, and these people think they can waltz down the street and help themselves to what they like.
“I’m struggling to make ends meet and this is the last thing I need.
“It’s a bad day when you can’t put a washing out without it getting nicked. It’s shocking.
“People think it’s funny and I did laugh about it when I reported it to the police because if I didn’t laugh I would cry — but if I find out who it was I’ll charge them because it’s theft.”
