SOME-FLING SPECIAL: Expect Highland dancers and plenty colour at the weekend’s events.
THE best in Scottish traditional entertainment will be coming to Inverclyde this weekend.
Gourock Highland Games is taking place on Sunday at Gourock Park.
Visitors will be heading along in their hundreds to get a piece of the action from Scotland’s first Highland games of the year.
Chieftan of the event, Provost Michael McCormick, will welcome everyone to the park and introduce the events, which will run from noon until 6pm.
Councillor Jim Clocherty, Inverclyde’s regeneration convener, said: “Gourock Highland Games is Inverclyde’s leading annual event and is an occasion the West of Scotland can be proud of."

Carjack horror for man
A YOUNG driver was subjected to a horror carjacking attack in Larkfield. The 21-year-old was chased by three men in a seven-seater Ford Galaxy as he drove home on Wednesday morning.
Blaze at unit is probed
FIREFIGHTERS raced to Cappielow Industrial Estate early this morning after a fierce blaze at one of its units. The premises of Window King, in McKenzie Street were gutted in the fire, which was spotted around 12.45am.
New row in pay dispute
COUNCIL foremen and community wardens are stepping in to open leisure facilities hit by the overtime dispute, it was claimed today. Park keepers are refusing to open Ravenscraig Stadium and football parks in the evening or at weekends because their overtime rate has been cut.
Tots devastated by vandals
HEARTLESS vandals have left tots with nowhere to play after targeting a nursery play park two nights in a row. Disgusted staff at Enterprise Childcare turned up for work to find a £1,200 centre-piece castle trashed.
Kids, 9, are smokers
SMOKERS as young as nine are asking for help to kick the habit at Port Glasgow Health Centre. Inverclyde Community Health Partnership has special ‘youth tobacco workers’ based there to try to stop young people starting to smoke and to help others stop.
Lights out in Larkfield
HUGE swathes of Greenock are being plunged into darkness by vandals sabotaging the street-lighting system. A seemingly-organised wrecking spree has put lights out across Larkfield each night since last week — costing the council around £1,000 a day.
Centre attacked by vandals
VANDALS went on the rampage in a Greenock business centre and smashed 68 windows. The neds pelted the former Ladyburn School in Pottery Street with rocks and bricks, causing £3,500 worth of damage.
