COUNCILLORS have said ‘I doo’ to plans to build a pigeon loft in Jura Street, Greenock.

Members of the planning board have decided to grant retrospective planning permission to Daniel McEnaney for the loft for his feathered friends.

Two letters of objection were received from residents but councillors were advised to accept the application.

In a letter to the council, dated 21 February, Ms S Sullivan, of 28 Jura Street, said: “The birds frequently land on my window ledges, often catching me unaware and startling me.

“They also foul on my washing, footpath and building and a strong odour is coming from the loft.”

In a letter to the board, dated 1 May, Mr McEnaney said: “My pets are fed a luxury diet which requires them to empty their bowels before taking off for flight.

“Only one or two of my birds are out flying at any one time.

“It seems ridiculous to blame my birds alone for the soiling of washing.”

Councillor Keith Brooks said: “The loft is very well constructed and well made. I am delighted to give it the go-ahead.”
