Boozed-up husband was arrested

Greenock Sheriff Court
A TERRIFIED wife was forced to call police when her husband came home drunk after a boozing spree.
William Thompson, 46, appeared at the sheriff court from custody yesterday after being arrested at his home in Castlehill Avenue, Port Glasgow, following a day’s drinking in the town.
He began furiously banging on the front door and shouting through the letterbox demanding to be let in — but his wife and their 15-year-old son refused. The 46-year-old then went to the rear of the property and began thumping the back door.
When cops arrived after being contacted by his distressed partner, Thompson told them: “I’m a bit drunk and just want my bed.”
Depute fiscal Nadine Dormer told the court: “His wife realised what an intoxicated state he was in and spoke to her son and together they decided not to let the accused in.
“He kept hitting the door, then did the same at the back, leaving his partner alarmed and distressed.
During his appearance before Sheriff Vincent Canavan, Thompson admitted committing a breach of the peace on 15 May.
Defence solicitor Claire Stevenson said: “He is embarrassed at having spent a night in custody and this is not a situation that is likely to happen again.”
Sheriff Canavan released Thompson on bail to an address in Port Glasgow’s Burnside Avenue and deferred sentence on him for the preparation of reports.
