HIT-AND-RUN: Burns Road where the boy was hit.

POLICE are hunting a hit-and-run driver who reversed over a 10-year-old boy.

The boy was on his way to St Gabriel’s Primary School in Greenock when the terrifying incident took place.

Sergeant Andy Wilkinson said: “A black vehicle was driving south on Burns Road when the driver appeared to lose control and mounted a footpath and grass verge.

“Initially, the vehicle missed the 10-year-old boy, but it reversed and struck him, causing him to fall. It is believed the vehicle was driven over him and the driver made no attempt to stop. We are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything to contact police.”

The hit-and-run ordeal took place at around 8.50am on Thursday opposite the Elizabeth Martin Clinic and Nursery.

The boy was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital where he was treated for bruising.

Police are asking anyone with any information to contact PC Notman on 492500.
