Pervert jailed for sex act in front of girls

A MAN who performed a sex act in front of three terrified schoolgirls has been jailed for three years.

Brian Patton, 24, exposed himself as the youngsters, aged 13, 15 and 17, walked past his home on their way to school in Port Glasgow’s Moss Road at 8.40am.

Yesterday, fiscal depute Nadine Dormer told the sheriff court: “The girls were walking and chatting when they passed the house and heard a knock on a window.

“They all turned to see a man’s face at the window between the blinds. The blinds opened and all three could see his completely naked body at the window.

“The girls were extremely shocked. One later said she could not believe what was happening.”

The court heard one of the girls turned the youngest away from the window but Patton kept acting in the same manner.

All three said they could clearly recognise Patton.

Initially two of the girls were too scared to move before fleeing, while one ran to raise the alarm and the police were called.Officers arrived at Patton’s home to find him still

partially undressed.

He was arrested and taken to Greenock police station where he was detained in custody.

Officers said the girls, particularly the youngest, were ‘deeply upset’ by the ordeal.

Patton pleaded guilty to a charge of public indecency on 22 April.

Solicitor Alasdair Hendry said Patton — who has two similar previous convictions — has recently displayed a willingness to co-operate with the authorities to address his offending. Mr Hendry said: “He has expressed his regret at becoming involved in these matters.”

Sheriff Vincent Canavan told Patton: “No sentence other than a custodial one is appropriate because of the nature of the offence, the past history of offending and due to the assessment that you are a high risk of future sexual offending.”

Sheriff Canavan imposed a sentence of five years — three years custodial and two on licence — as well as placing Patton on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
