Man hurt in road rage attack
By Brian Hossack
RAGE ATTACK: Scene of the terrifying street assault.
A MAN was set upon in a road rage attack after honking his horn at another driver.
The victim was assaulted during a terrifying street attack after he swerved to avoid a car which pulled out in front of him at the roundabout near Morrison’s in Rue End Street at 10.30am on Sunday.
The beating was only halted when a passing taxi driver leapt from his car to come to the man’s aid.
The victim, who has asked not to be identified, has now appealed for the Good Samaritan to come forward and help police with their investigation.
He said: “I was driving to work when this car pulled out in front of me, so I pressed the horn and swerved to avoid it.
“I then drove to traffic lights which were red and this blue Peugeot pulled up beside me with two guys in the car.
“Then the driver got out and ran towards the car, so I got out to see what was wrong. The he just started throwing punches and my face was left marked on both sides.”
The man described how the intervention of the taxi driver halted the assault.
He added: “A taxi driver shouted that he was reporting the guy for assaulting me and a car and caravan behind stopped. The taxi driver started to come over but the guy then got in car and drove off.
“Police say they need the taxi driver to tell them what he saw. I’m making a plea for him to come forward as justice will not be done without him.”
Chief Inspector Grant Manders, of Greenock police, said they were investigating the incident.
He said: “I can confirm we are investigating an alleged assault in Baker’s Brae. Inquiries are ongoing and we would welcome any witnesses to come forward.”
