A ONE-YEAR-OLD baby boy could be scarred for life after a sickening attack by a dog.
The mongrel bit the toddler’s cheek in John Wood Street, Port Glasgow, on Thursday after noon.
Witnesses saw his shocked mum take him to the local health centre before an ambulance arrived to whisk the boy to Yorkhill Children’s Hospital.
A man, who did not want to be named, said: “The mum was running down the street and putting something on the baby’s face.
“The wean was screaming and blood was running down his face.”
Another onlooker told the Tele: “The woman ran down to the health centre and an ambulance came to take the baby away.”
It is believed the boy, thought to be from Port Glasgow, suffered injuries to his cheek.
He is expected to make a full recovery, but could be scarred for life.
The incident, which took place at around 1pm, outside the Bank of Scotland on John Wood Street, is now being probed by police.
They are now trying to trace the dog and its owner.

After biting the boy, the dog ran away from the scene.
