Sun shines on QE2 visit

SPLENDID sunshine greeted the QE2 on her farewell visit to Greenock.
Thousands lined the Esplanade to say goodbye to an icon of the sea and the Tele was there to join the well-wishers.
Locals and visitors flocked to the waterfront for the final chance to see the famous vessel on her last trip up the Clyde.
The Queen of the Clyde arrived at noon and docked at Ocean Terminal where around 20,000 people visited the viewing area to see her.

Christmas comes early to Port
CHRISTMAS has come early for one Port Glas-gow family who have transformed their home into Santa’s Grotto. Festive fanatic Patrick McCartney, 39, has created his winter wonderland, with a bumper 10 Christmas trees and more than 60 Santas. He said: “I love Christmas — I’m a big wean."
Probe after boy falls from bus
AN investigation has been launched after a young boy with special needs fell from a moving school mini-bus on to a busy Greenock road. The minibus was heading along Inverkip Road, during the rush-hour when the boy fell out and hit his head on the road.

A TEENAGE chef walked into a takeaway carrying a meat cleaver and asked staff to call the police. Greenock Sheriff Court heard Daniel Tonner, 18, of Nelson Street, Greenock, took the seven-inch blade into a Chinese takeaway near his home.

MORE than one in three people living in Inverclyde have considered leaving the area because of crime, anti-social behaviour and unemployment. Worryingly, 92 per cent of those asked also said they believed excessive drinking of alcohol was a particular problem in Inverclyde.
