HAT-TRICK: Nugent.

Port Glasgow 4,

Petershill 2

PORT Glasgow have reached the final of the Sectional League Cup after smashing Premier Division side Petershill 4–2 last night.

Scott Nugent got the ball rolling when he collected a long pass from McEwan in 20 minutes and fired into the bottom left of goal with his first touch.

Within seconds Petershill hit back with McLernon, who had two chances at goal.

His first, from inside the box, was stopped well by Graham and when faced with an open goal seconds later, following a pass from Dallas, he blasted the ball off the woodwork.

Port Glasgow soon recovered and in 27 minutes Scott Banks received another great pass from McEwan and again sent the ball past an over-eager Parry to put them two ahead.

Both sides came out in the second half with something to prove and within five minutes Graham and Parry had been tested inside their penalty areas.

Petershill reduced the deficit with a penalty in 57 minutes when Dallas fell after a tackle by Temporal.

James Coulter converted to Graham’s left and all of a sudden it looked like Petershill might fight back.

Some heroic saves by Graham, however, kept Port Glasgow ahead, before Nugent bagged his second in 72 minutes. A long pass from Coyle found the Port man, who once again lobbed a now humiliated Parry to make it 3–1.

Nugent then quickly controlled and fired in a turning half-volley from 25 yards to seal the game for the underdogs and a personal hat-trick.

Alex Burns managed to pull another back in 87 minutes for the Hill, before Graham stopped another penalty from Coulter in 90 minutes.

Port Glasgow will face Rutherglen Glencairn in the final, after they knocked out Premier Division side Arthurlie on penalties.
