Port hammered
St Anthonys 6, Port Glasgow 0
PORT GLASGOW were hammered by a rampant St Anthony’s at the weekend.
However, Port got the better start when Craig McEwan was bundled inside the box and had a claim for a penalty turned down after just four minutes. Jim Brown then saw a header cleared off the line.
Then the game changed when Scott Banks gave away a free kick 20 yards from goal, allowing the Ants’ No.7 to strike a beautiful effort into the top left-hand corner.
Things got worse for Port. In 39 minutes a long throw fell to the Ants’ No.19, who slotted home without a challenge. By now Port’s was looking fragile and in 44 minutes a corner swung to the head of an Ants centre-half to make it 3-0.
Brian Heron changed tactics and brought on Andy Monaghan for James Best and Paul Scott for Paul Temporal. This seemed a shrewd move, but within five minutes of the restart Port’s defence were caught out with a long clearance from which Ants’ No.7 put in a cross for the No. 9 to make it 4-0.
A defensive mix-up following a free-kick allowed the Ants to go five-up and the rout was completed in 90 minutes with keeper Graham being lobbed.
