Port aiming to bounce back from Ants woe

Port Glasgow host Blantyre Vics on the back of a 6-0 humiliation from St Anthonys tomorrow.
Manager Brian Heron declared that result will go down as the worst performance in the years he has been boss, but is confident his troops will have learned from the debacle. He has told his squad they will be a big scalp to others, now they are in the League Cup final.
Blantyre will be wanting to get their season up and running tomorrow, after losing their first two games, the latter of which was a 5-2 defeat to Ashfield at home last week.
For Port, Joe Beckley is missing through suspension and both Jim Brown and Ross Walker are uavailable, with Adam Taylor doubtful. However, Heron is confident he has a strong enough pool for the match.
Port Glasgow have also received a bye into the second round of the Scottish Cup.

European Tour card for Doak
PROFESSIONAL golfer Chris Doak let out a huge sigh of relief after he secured his European Tour card in Spain.
The 30-year-old Greenock pro rounded off an excellent week in the qualifying school final at PGA Catalunya with rounds of 71 and 70.
John desperate to split Sweet Pea
THE identity of Greenock boxer John Simpson’s opponent for his Commonwealth warm-up bout has been confirmed as Kenya’s national champion, John Gicharu.
The featherweight fight — the main supporting act on the Paul Appleby-Esham Pickering undercard at Bellahouston on Friday 28 November — is Simpson’s stepping stone back to the top after his points loss to Appleby in June.
Star bowlers of the year
GREENOCK & District Bowling Association have, once again, enjoyed a fruitful season, albeit without any help from the good weather providers.
Doak's superb round
GREENOCK golf professional Chris Doak hit a spectacular round of 62 at the PGA Catalunya near Giron in Spain to keep his bid for a European Tour Card alive and well.
His dramatic fourth round score lifted him from 107th place to 23rd.
It has been an amazing year for Doak who finished top of the Tartan Tour.
Port scrap for a point
PORT GLASGOW boss Craig Brown was fulsome in his praise of his team, after a battling performance saw them salvage a point against the odds.
The Port could have crumbled after losing an early goal and then being reduced to 10 men with the ordering-off of keeper Sean Graham after just 20 minutes. But they stuck to their task, and might even consider themselves unfortunate not to have come away with all three points. GedHoey scored the equaliser.
