Greenock give new players a run-out
By David Mackie
Match doubt: Thomas Docherty who took a knock in midweek and may miss tomorrow.
GREENOCK Juniors have been preparing to play Wishaw at home on Saturday with a friendly against Petershill.
The warm-up match on Wednesday was an opportunity for Stephen Mooney to try out some of his newer players and, although they were defeated, the team’s manager was happy with their performance.
He said: “Some of the boys performed really well on Wednesday.
“It was a chance to get a few of our trialists warmed up and I feel we did just that.”
Despite the advantages an extra game can offer, David Rodgers could be facing a lengthy shift on the sidelines after breaking his hand.
Stephen and Thomas Docherty also finished the game with doubts over whether they would be fit for Saturday.
But the Greenock manager remains confident ahead of Wishaw’s visit, although he has admitted he will be cautious about making any assumptions.
He said: “I think that the Wishaw team has improved.
“I don’t want any of my players thinking they can go into this game and win easily. I’m definitely not going to underestimate them.”
Greenock are currently third in the Second Division, but with only three games played there is little among the competition.
Manager Mooney said: “I’m confident about this game but the team needs to turn up with the right attitude.
“We need to work for every point in this division and we can’t afford to lose our focus.”
Kick-off is at 2pm at Ravenscraig Stadium.
Greenock Juniors are sponsored by National Semiconductor (UK) Ltd and Allied Trades Ltd. Match equipment sponsored by Ian Mitchell of A and J Alltrades.
