Ton slight outsiders

Action man: Morton's Jim McAlister on the run against Queen of the South earlier this season. His pace and energy will be key factors today at Cappielow.

GREENOCK Morton have yet to find the net at home to Queen of the South this season, losing 1-0 and, more recently, 3-0 in the pair’s two Cappielow Park meetings.

However, Jim McInally’s men did prevail at Palmerston Park in November and, on the back of the morale boosting 3-0 midweek triumph against Gretna, it could be Ton’s turn to record a home win against the Doonhamers and book their place in the last eight of the FA Cup.

Nevertheless, Morton are marginal outsiders at 8/5 with Sportingbet to progress at the first attempt and 5/2 (Blue Square) to earn a replay from a tie many firms, such as Partybets who price both sides at 6/4, are having trouble predicting.

A second 3-0 cup success in the space of a week is a hefty 33/1 with VCBet and Coral.co.uk quote another 3-1 victory over Gordon Chisholm’s side at 22/1, though such a comfortable victory is a big ask for the Ton. Instead, shrewd punters may be better served by backing a one-goal winning margin at 13/5 (Betfred) or a 2-1 scoreline in favour of the hosts at 10/1 (Betdaq).

Elsewhere, betdirect consider a Morton lead at both the 45 and 90-minute marks to be a 4/1 shot, while the cautious can cover the draw and a Ton triumph in one ‘Double Chance’ wager at odds of 1/2 with bet365.

Celtic should be in the hat for the quarter-final draw; the Hoops a banker at 2/5 (VCBet) to defeat an out-of-sorts Kilmarnock side at Rugby Park. Gordon Strachan’s men are an alluring 7/1 with Betdaq to notch twice without reply and bet365 make loan-signing Georgios Samaras 11/2 to mark his debut with the opening goal.

Rangers too should get through, at Hibernian’s expense, Canbet quoting a victory for Walter Smith’s league leaders at 4/7. Odds supplied by www.betrescue.com
