Silver jubilee: Mark celebrates with team-mates.

IT was a silver service from Inverclyde AC athletes Mark Pollard and Pamela Nicholson at the Home Countries International at Holyrood Park, Edinburgh, at the weekend.

In the men’s 8K event, Inverclyde AC team captain Pollard finished 13th overall and third Scots counter. He recorded a time of 26.08, which was enough to help Scotland to the team silver medals behind the victorious English team.

Overall winner Tom Lancashire of England just held off a spirited run from the first Scots counter, Tom Russell of Stroud AC. Lancashire and Russell clocked times of 24.39 and 24.42 respectively. Wales were third, ahead of Northern Ireland.

In the women’s 6K race, Scotland again took team silver behind England. Top Scot was Freya Murray in third place overall, just ahead of local ladies Pamela Nicholson, in an excellent fifth place, and Elspeth Curran, 17th overall and also second under-20 lady.

Mark Pollard will now turn his attentions to this Saturday’s National Six Stage Road Relay at Livingston, an event where Inverclyde AC has never finished higher than third. Current National Cross Country team champions and defending National Six Stage Road Relay champions Ron Hill Cambuslang are the formidable team at the moment.

Committee members are reminded of the meeting this evening at 6.30.
