GOALKEEPING hopeful Ryan McWilliams is fresh off the ferry from Northern Ireland, where he was between the sticks for the Scottish Youth Football Association under-19 team.

Ryan, of Greenock, has previously played for the national team, but this trip across the water marked his first competetive game. The 18-year-old shot-stopper is the No 1 for juvenile side Greenock Juniors, and trains with Largs Thistle during the week.

A squad of 18 players was selected from the juvenile leagues throughout Scotland to take part in the match in Lurgan, County Armagh.

His manager at Greenock, Reggie Scorer, said: “Ryan is very dedicated. He has had to compete hard for the place, but now his potential is showing through, and it’s an honour for him to represent his country.”

Ryan, an avid Morton fan, was delighted to have been considered for the squad, and even happier to return home with a 3-1 victory.
