Axe swings: Scott McLaughlin was amongst the Morton players released from the club.

MORTON boss Davie Irons has allowed a contingent of out-of-contract players to move on from the club.

Scott McLaughlin, Dean Keenan, Dave McGurn, Craig Black and Scott McKellar have all been part of the clear-out, as Irons begins to stamp his own persona on the team he inherited last year.

Said Irons: “Certain players have been allowed to leave at the end of their contracts. Dave McGurn, for one, has decided to change direction with his career, and we wish him all the best in that.

“A handful of younger players have also been released, but negotiations are ongoing with the other players. This doesn’t always happen quickly, but the ones we want to keep all know who they are.”

Among those are Ryan Harding, Stewart Greacen, Kevin Finlayson and Alex Walker.
