Forward power: David Graham is interesting Morton.

MORTON’S management team have expressed an interest in signing Hamilton star David Graham.

Word from New Douglas Park suggests the 24-year-old ex-Gretna forward may move on when his contract expires, and the Ton are at the top of the list of teams vying for his signature.

Speaking yesterday, Morton assistant Derek Collins was keeping his cards close to his chest, but said: “I believe David is out of contract at the end of the season, but right now he has a responsibility to his manager Billy Reid. Hamilton will obviously be keen to keep David, but if he became available then we would be very interested.”

Collins and Ton boss Davie Irons have plenty first-hand knowledge of the striker, as he produced a man-of-the-match performance in the duo’s third game in charge, also scoring a stunning half-volley as the Accies won 3-0.

However, Collins went on to insist that although the club have been linked with various players — most notably Allan McManus at St Johnstone — negotiations have not moved beyond the initial stages.

He said: “We have been in discussion with various agents, and it’s not so much that we are chasing certain names as we are looking at all the options for every position.

“We have been in contact with Allan’s agent, but it’s still very early. It’s important too that we speak to each player individually. We need to know they have the right personality and character to match the ambition of the club. We are also looking for two goalkeepers. That is the top of our agenda.”

Meanwhile, contract negotiations are being finalised with Ryan Harding and Alex Walker, both looking certain to re-sign, and talks with Kevin Finlayson are still ongoing.
