In again: Ryan Harding joins Alex Walker in re-signing for Morton.

MORTON defensive pairing Ryan Harding and Alex Walker have signed new deals with the club.

Ton boss Davie Irons is delighted to have hung on to the duo, who were strong performers in the team’s battle against relegation last season.

He said: “We targeted those players as being key to the squad, and I’m happy to have them signed up.

"Ryan has signed a two-year deal, and Alex has signed for another year. We are still in talks with Kevin Finlayson, but I’m hopeful to resolve that soon.”

Now that the club has secured the backbone that helped them rise out of the relegation battle, with the extension to Stewart Greacen’s contract and the permanent move for Erik Paartalu, there is one priority still to be resolved — the search for a keeper.

Irons is confident and insists there will be no panic signings, and said: “We are talking to a few people, hopefully we will have something tied up soon.

"We are still looking at all options, and we are still looking to strengthen the squad, but we won’t put a deadline on it.”

On the possibility of other new faces, Irons said: “We will probably operate with a squad of around 20 next season, so we need to bolster our numbers.

“We will bring in two, three, maybe four new faces.”

The Ton have no finalised pre-season schedule as yet, but Irons went on to add: “We have a plan which we will present to the chairman, but we don’t intend going too far afield, and there will definitely be a few local games in there.”
