HAPPY Ryan Harding is in high spirits about events at Cappielow, now that Morton’s difficult first season in the division is well behind them.
Harding, who completed the signing of a two-year extension earlier this week, said: “I’m delighted to have signed for the next two years, I think we still have a lot to show. In the first year it’s all about survival, and we achieved that. Towards the end of the season we started to look good, so now we have to build on that for next year.”
Since new manager Davie Irons came in, the Ton players produced some accomplished performances, and were heralded as being a team difficult to defeat.
The spine of that team remains in place, and the man his team-mates call ‘Harry’ insists the solidarity of the squad will be a benefit. He added: “Myself, Alex [Walker], and Stewart [Greacen] signing again gives us a real boost, and it’s great to see Erik [Paartalu] in along with the new keeper.
“He [Colin Stewart] is someone everyone knows. I’m surprised Livingston let him go. It’s definitely a confident signing.”
Asked about his goal against Dunfermline in the 3-0 win that helped the Ton stay up — he said: “Fingers crossed I can get a few more next year. Everyone loves to score, especially a defender as you get so few chances. I got two last year.”
Meanwhile, midfielder Kevin Finlayson is still in talks with the club, but he is hopeful a resolution will be reached soon.
He said: “I’m just waiting to hear back from the gaffer. The chairman is away right now, but I expect things will be sorted out at the weekend.”
