Old acquaintance, ex-Morton midfielder Dean Keenan will visit Cappielow
MORTON’S pre-season schedule has been released by the club, with seven fixtures lined up to be played in July.
Davie Irons’ men begin their preparation with a trip to Castle Douglas to play South of Scotland League outfit Threave Rovers on Monday 7 July, then on Saturday 12 July Ayr United come to town.
The Honest Men, led by ex-Ton centre-half Brian Reid, will be looking to prepare for a challenge for promotion from the Second Division. In the squad will be another ex-Ton — midfielder Dean Keenan — who signed for Ayr in the summer following a loan spell at the club.
Morton are still awaiting confirmation from Danny Wilson’s Hartlepool from England’s League One, who are pencilled in to visit Cappielow on Tuesday 15 July for the first of two games from their Scottish base of Largs.
The clash with Dumbarton at Strathclyde Homes Stadium is a Friday night game on 18 July, with a 7.30pm kick-off. The Sons struggled near the bottom of Division Three last term, and will host Morton in the middle of their own seven-match pre-season schedule.
On Monday 21 July the Ton face a home run out against Calton YMCA in the Renfrewshire Cup semi-final, then on Wednesday 23 July they travel south again to Stair Park for a game against Division Two new boys Stranraer.
The last match announced, the Saturday 26 July Renfrewshire cup final clash with St Mirren, will give Morton a crack at revenge against a Buddies side that triumphed 1-0 in the corresponding fixture last season.
Meanwhile, Ton-target goalkeeper Stephen Robertson has re-signed with Airdrie United after it was confirmed that the New Broomfield club would be playing First Division football next season.
This leaves Morton still searching for another keeper to compete with ex-Livingston shot stopper Colin Stewart, signed on a free in the close season.
