Irons content

RULED OUT: Alex Walker won’t take part in this afternoon’s match. He and David MacGregor are ruled out through injury.
MORTON manager Davie Irons is satisfied with the way his team’s preparations have gone as he looked ahead to this afternoon’s Cappielow encounter with Ayr United.
In games with Threave Rovers, Tow Law Town and Durham, his side have racked up 10 goals, winning twice and drawing once. Irons said: “It’s gone fine. We ’ve had those three games and things have gone reasonably well.
“I’m not reading too much into it, but they’ve done well bearing in mind the level of the opposition.”
Several trialists got their chance to impress, and Irons said: “We’ll keep monitoring them in the games to come, but we’ve got a long way to go yet.
“The team won’t differ much from that which ended the season. Obviously we’ve added a few and they’ll be in the frame. We should have a strong 13 or 14.”
The Cappielow boss still has to acquire a second goalkeeper to his squad and he commented: “That should happen in the next few days.”
Still in consideration is Rangers goalkeeper Lee Robinson, who played on loan at Cappielow last season, but Irons said: “There are another couple of alternatives.”
Meanwhile neither David MacGregor nor Alex Walker travelled with the party for the games last week, both carrying injuries. “Hopefully, they won’t be too serious,” said Irons, who already has Stewart Greacen, Ryan Harding and Allan Jenkins sidelined.
Neither MacGregor nor Walker will play today in a friendly match against an Ayr side likely to include two ex-Morton men in striker Alex Williams and midfielder Dean Keenan.
