AN Inverclyde athlete became Scotland’s number one 800 metres runner — just in time to enjoy her summer holidays.
Nynke Mulholland signed off for her family trip abroad in style at the Grand Prix event in East Kilbride.
The U17s runner started the race as Scotland’s number two over the distance, with 82 points in the Scottish Athletics Grand Prix series.
But a new personal best of 2:23.82 pushed her into pole position ahead of the final event.
European Tour card for Doak
PROFESSIONAL golfer Chris Doak let out a huge sigh of relief after he secured his European Tour card in Spain.
The 30-year-old Greenock pro rounded off an excellent week in the qualifying school final at PGA Catalunya with rounds of 71 and 70.
John desperate to split Sweet Pea
THE identity of Greenock boxer John Simpson’s opponent for his Commonwealth warm-up bout has been confirmed as Kenya’s national champion, John Gicharu.
The featherweight fight — the main supporting act on the Paul Appleby-Esham Pickering undercard at Bellahouston on Friday 28 November — is Simpson’s stepping stone back to the top after his points loss to Appleby in June.
Forgotten man
MORTON’S forgotten man, Jamie Stevenson, is hoping to get a run of games for Alloa before Christmas to try and impress his own boss, Davie Irons, and any prospective employers in the Scottish Football League.

GREENOCK & District Bowling Association have, once again, enjoyed a fruitful season, albeit without any help from the good weather providers.
Doak's superb round
GREENOCK golf professional Chris Doak hit a spectacular round of 62 at the PGA Catalunya near Giron in Spain to keep his bid for a European Tour Card alive and well.
His dramatic fourth round score lifted him from 107th place to 23rd.
It has been an amazing year for Doak who finished top of the Tartan Tour.
