MORTON boss Davie Irons was an angry man as he looked back on a match he felt his side deserved to win.

And his ire was directed at referee Chris Boyle’s decision to add four and a half minutes of time on, which allowed Clyde to snatch an equaliser with the last touch of the ball.

He said: “Where did he get four and a half minutes from? I asked for an explanation and he said part of the reason was that Brian Wake didn’t sprint off after he was sent off.

“What player ever sprints off the park after being sent off?”

Eight players were cautioned, Wake twice, leading to his dismissal, and that was also a bone of contention with Irons who commented: “It beggars belief at times. But there’s only one man whose decisions count and there’s nothing we can do about that. We have no control over that.”

That said, Irons was unhappy at the loss of the goal from a defensive point of view. He commented: “I’m disappointed at the goal. We should have defended it.

“It feels like a defeat. Clyde didn’t cause us any problems. It was a makeshift back three but we were solid and the lads coped very well.

“I had said to the boys not to bother about officials, that they wouldn’t affect things, but that turns out to have been a bit naive.”

Clyde manager John Brown had meanwhile admitted that his side were fortunate, something Irons praised. “We can all be biased in our views and I appreciate John’s honesty.

“To lose a goal like that with the last kick of the game is so disappointing.”

Bown was forthright in his after-match comments, saying: “We got out of jail. We just never performed. The physical presence of the big boy Wake up front caused us problems, and Russell.
