GREENOCK’S Oak Mall Shopping Centre can look forward to joining in the Co-operative Insurance Cup fun today.
Visitors to the centre will have the opportunity to test their skills in the Co-operative Insurance Cup Keepy Uppy Challenge and enter a competition to watch Greenock Morton in a future league match.
There’s even a chance to win a set of Co-operative Insurance Cup junior football kit for your team and take your photograph with the Co-operative Insurance Cup, so come along and join in the fun – from 10am-4pm.
This season is the 10th consecutive season of the Co-operative Insurance’s sponsorship of the Scottish League Cup. Over that time the Co-operative Insurance Cup has been won by four different teams – Celtic, Rangers, Livingston and Hibernian.
As well as the sponsorship of the Co-operative Insurance Cups in Scotland and Northern Ireland, The Co-operative Insurance has been investing in football since the 1970s and supports grassroots initiatives throughout the UK.
Since the grassroots programme began in 1999, youth teams have been supplied with over 2,950 sets of kit and 550 sets of equipment and football coaching has been provided for more than 14,500 children.
European Tour card for Doak
PROFESSIONAL golfer Chris Doak let out a huge sigh of relief after he secured his European Tour card in Spain.
The 30-year-old Greenock pro rounded off an excellent week in the qualifying school final at PGA Catalunya with rounds of 71 and 70.
John desperate to split Sweet Pea
THE identity of Greenock boxer John Simpson’s opponent for his Commonwealth warm-up bout has been confirmed as Kenya’s national champion, John Gicharu.
The featherweight fight — the main supporting act on the Paul Appleby-Esham Pickering undercard at Bellahouston on Friday 28 November — is Simpson’s stepping stone back to the top after his points loss to Appleby in June.
Star bowlers of the year
GREENOCK & District Bowling Association have, once again, enjoyed a fruitful season, albeit without any help from the good weather providers.
Doak's superb round
GREENOCK golf professional Chris Doak hit a spectacular round of 62 at the PGA Catalunya near Giron in Spain to keep his bid for a European Tour Card alive and well.
His dramatic fourth round score lifted him from 107th place to 23rd.
It has been an amazing year for Doak who finished top of the Tartan Tour.
Port scrap for a point
PORT GLASGOW boss Craig Brown was fulsome in his praise of his team, after a battling performance saw them salvage a point against the odds.
The Port could have crumbled after losing an early goal and then being reduced to 10 men with the ordering-off of keeper Sean Graham after just 20 minutes. But they stuck to their task, and might even consider themselves unfortunate not to have come away with all three points. GedHoey scored the equaliser.
