MORTON manager Davie Irons blamed two mistakes for his side’s defeat at Dens Park on Saturday.
He said: “Our defence failed to compete for the Daquin corner at their opening goal, then when Newby was through he should have done better.
“I said to the lads at half-time that we would get a chance to get back into the game, but Newby had to do better with it.
“Rab [Douglas] came out and made the decision for the player, but he has not executed it.”
Dundee boss Alex Rae felt his side had been “quite comfortable.”
He said: “They had one real chance — the long ball over the top, and big Rab pulled off a decent save, but they had a lot of long balls and we coped with it well.
“It’s a really good three points for us. It keeps us going in the right direction. It’s important we do the right things.”
Rae continued: “We had a couple of chances just after half-time — one cleard off the line from a header and one fell to Colin McMenamin.
“The goal we got we’ve been working on. It was a great ball from Freddie [Daquin] and Eric Paton’s caught it flush. It’s pleasing when these things come off.
“We’re pleased to keep maximum points here.
“He [Daquin] works for the side ever so well. We would like both sides of the field to be a wee bit more offensive.
“But I can’t complain. I think they’re fighting for every scrap out there and it’s all credit to them.
“We have to try and make this place as difficult as possible for other teams. We restricted them to very few chances. it’s just a pleasing three points.”
