Ton and Airdrie meet on cup high

We're through: Ton players celebrate Ryan Hardings winning goal against Hibs on Tuesday night.

MORTON make the journey to Airdrie still seeking their first Division One win of the campaign, but buoyed by that fantastic cup win over Hibs in Edinburgh on Tuesday night.

Airdrie too, of course, followed that up by beating Hibs’ big rivals Hearts at Tynecastle the following night to record a remarkable double for the First Division.

Given that the hosts have also made something of an inauspicious start to the league season, the Ton might fancy their chances of prevailing at the Excelsior Stadium.

Bookmakers, however, are not quite as confident of an away success, Betdaq pricing Davie Irons’s men at 7/4 to land three points and VCBet marking 11/8 against a home win.

The fact that Airdrie have drawn three of their four league matches means some travelling supporters may fancy Morton to upset the odds to an extent by at least nicking a draw (5/2, Coral), with punters also likely to be potentially attracted to both Betdirect’s 9/2 for the match to be all square at the end of each half, as well as Betfred’s 11/2 chalked against the pair netting once each.

Noting the zero in the column representing the hosts’ goals tally, one or two Tons fans may even believe their side can snare all of the spoils rather than just a share.

Subsequently, for them, a better value wager in the correct score betting would seem to be Blue Square’s 9/1 for Morton to shade it 2-1.

Elsewhere, bet365 offer 5/1 for the contest to be all-square at the interval only for Irons’s troops to plunder a post-break maximum haul, Jaxx.com believe Morton to be worth a generous quote of 1/2 to steer clear of defeat while the home team’s goal struggles mean a decent case can be made for the 9/5 Partybets chalk against a Ton clean sheet and Coral’s 9/1 for neither side to break the deadlock.

It’s also the first Old Firm derby clash of the season tomorrow and home advantage for Celtic means they command favouritism at odds of 20/19 with Canbet. Rangers, locked, with their rivals, at the top of the SPL on seven points, are 14/5 with bet365 to nick all three points at Parkhead but the best bet appears to be the 9/4 Sportingbet quote for the draw.
