GREENOCK Wanderers host their first home league match at Fort Matilda tomorrow against old adversaries Glasgow Academicals.
The clubs are two of the oldest in Scotland and the first fixture between the sides was played on 20 February 1875 when Accies ran out comfortable winners at Wanderers’ then home ground at Battery Park. A healthy rivalry has existed ever since and tomorrow’s match will be one for the rugby purist to savour.
Confident Dom
DOMINIC Shimmin is not too suprised at the good start he has had in Scottish football since signing for Morton at the start of the season.
Please let us play
GREENOCK boss Stevie Mooney is desperate for tomorrow’s match at Wishaw to go ahead.
Successive call-offs in the past few weeks mean the last competitive action for his team was way back on 13 December. In a cruel twist of fate, young midfielder Jason McLaughlin looks like being out for several weeks.
Port Glasgow have no injury worries
WITH the winter freeze looking like loosening its grip, for the time being at least, Port Glasgow are set to return to action tomorrow.
Recent postponements have thwarted the Port in their bid to maintain their three-game winning run. The frosty conditions also led to the cancellation of Monday night’s training session.
But the squad finally met up at St Stephen’s High School on Wednesday to plan for tomorrow’s game against Kilsyth Rangers at Ravenscraig. There was good news for manager Craig Brown, with no injury worries to contend with ahead of the match.
Doctor won't provide Ton-ic
DAVIE Irons has ruled out any imminent Morton move for Kenny Deuchar — but hopes his close ties with the ex-Gretna goal machine might pay dividends one day.
Away form is the key now
TURNING narrow away defeats into draws or wins will be the key to how successful Morton are this season, says boss Davie Irons.
Irons angry at critics of Dom
MORTON boss Davie Irons has come out forceably in support of his defender Dominic Shimmin after the tackle on Gary Arbuckle which broke the Queens player’s leg during Saturday’s Cappielow draw.
Ton leave it late at Cappielow
MORTON boss Davie Irons felt that his men were well worth their point at a bitterly cold Cappielow on Saturday after being forced to fight back from two goals down.
