Wet and windy running

DEBUT: Andrew Campbell.
INVERCLYDE AC took a depleted squad to the wet and windy Houston for the George Cumming’s 4-stage road relay.
It was left to a young squad — three of the four man team were under 21 plus 49-year-old Stuart Hodge — to carry the hopes of the club to make a top six finish.
Three Inverclyde runners were on the starting line to tackle the first leg of the 2.5 mile course.
Making his debut was U-17 Andrew Campbell. Although one of the youngest, he ensured his club were not far off the leaders at the end of his lap, keeping Inverclyde just 90 seconds behind leaders Shettleston Harriers.
Also taking part in his first race with the seniors and running for the second team was U-17 Paul Currie. He found the course a bit daunting, but to his credit he kept plugging away and should be satisfied with his time of just over 16minutes.
