Swim boys shine
TWO local REN 96 swimmers, Scott MacFarlane and Scott Rush, competed with distinction recently in the North Ayrshire Distance Meet at Auchenharvie.
Scott MacFarlane started with the 200m IM where he gave a good account of himself with a comfortable swim on all four strokes to come home in third place with a three-second personal best.
His 200m freestyle resulted in a good, evenly paced swim for Scott, with good turns, and he again came home in third place with a two-second personal best.
The 400m IM, which is a gruelling swim, saw him again pace himself well in all four strokes and record a one-second PB to take fifth place.
In the 200m backstroke, he gave a strong swim over the eight lengths, coming home on his time to take third place. Scott’s 400m freestyle was an Open event in which he coped well against older boys, but still swam strongly, keeping abreast with them to come home in sixth place overall.
Congratulations also go to Scott for making it into the Youth Development Squad for the second year in a row. He will train under the Scottish coaches at Stirling on a few weekends over the year, as well as a New Year Camp.
Scott Rush competed in the 200m freestyle, where he had a great swim with an even pace throughout, getting stronger as the race progressed to come home in sixth place with a fantastic 40-second PB, giving him a bronze time in the National Frame of Swimming.
His 200m backstroke again saw good swimming, taking three seconds off his time and giving him his second bronze time.
This was good swimming from both boys this early in the season, setting them up for future competitions.
