THIS was one of those games where the result was more important than the performance.

With the football on offer failing to match the bright overhead conditions, Greenock scraped their way to victory over an equally insipid Wishaw side.

But if getting three points is the main thing — and it invariably is — few in the Greenock camp will be complaining.

The home side got off to the best possible start with the opening goal in under two minutes.

Referee Mark Ainslie spotted an apparent hand-ball in the box and pointed to the spot.

It seemed a strange decision — no Greenock player appealed for it, and the Wishaw defenders looked too stunned to summon up the energy to protest.

Mark Stinson, appointed as the regular penalty taker after others had missed from the spot three times in earlier games, slotted home with confidence to put Greenock ahead.
