A POST-training gym session for Ton striker Iain Russell helped him to keep his fitness levels up yesterday.

But the former Brechin City frontman admits no matter where he goes, he cannot escape the feeling of frustration which is engulfing the Cappielow side.

The 25-year-old watched his first chance of a cup final appearance slip from his grasp on Sunday.

He understands why the supporters voiced their anger after another below-par performance, and insists the whole squad feels their pain.

Russell said: “It’s impossible with the position we are in to switch off — it is in everybody’s minds.

“You are walking about in a bad mood all the time, it just takes over your whole life.

“The fans are fully entitled to their opinion, but we are hurting as well.

“The manager is hurting, the boys are hurting, everybody is really down.

“It is not nice to hear the shouts from the fans, but they’ve paid their money and travelled a long way to support us.

“I was desperate to get into a cup final, it would have been brilliant. Anger, hurt, disappointment, there are so many mixed emotions as we all just want to do well.

“You’d think when we are doing so badly there might be a few rumbles in the dressing room, but that’s not it. We are a close squad.”

Russell moved into

full-time football with Morton last August, netting nine times in his first season.

And the one-time Rangers YTS starlet believes it is up to the players to halt the club’s current slide.

He added: “I was so happy and proud to play for Morton.

“I came here desperate to win things, it is a famous big club, but it is getting me down just now. We can’t pinpoint what it is, but it is so frustrating.

“Nothing is clicking for us, we have a good team and we are all working hard to change this situation.

“We need to do it for each other, for the manager, for the fans and for the chairman.

“The 11 players on the park — it is up to us now to make it turn.”
