STAKING A CLAIM: Allan Jenkins’ form last Saturday has put him in a strong position for a place tomorrow

MORTON boss Davie Irons sees tomorrow’s match at Livingston as a test for his side after two consecutive home wins.

He said: “It’s an interesting one. They’re on a bit of a sticky run while we’re on the upward slope. We might be getting them at the right time, not that we would go there with fear in any case.

“They were flying early on in the season and beat us at Cappielow. We gifted them two goals on that occasion but they played some decent stuff. But I think we’re a better team than we were then.”

Livingston’s new Italian manager Roberto Landi began the campaign with a professed belief in playing passing football, but he has had to rethink a little after three successive defeats. As Irons said: “He has had to get used to Scottish football and our weather.

“You have to be flexible. There is a time and a place for pretty football and a time to clear your lines and be more direct.”

Last week against Dundee, conditions were not conducive to the beautiful game, though the ground was in remarkable condition, something the manager commented upon. “Credit to Mark [Farrell] the groundsman. He has worked tirelessly on it and I know the club have spent a lot of money on it.”

As for the selection, it would be surprising if there were changes after a very positive display against Dundee. Said Irons: “It will be difficult to think about changing it. The only change we made last week was because Stevie Masterton was injured in training.

“We brought in Allan Jenkins and his performance makes it hard to leave him out.”
