INVERCLYDE AC had three seniors taking part in the BUPA Great Edinburgh International Cross Country race at Holyrood Park on Saturday, Mark Pollard ending up as top Scot.

The event also incorporated the Inter-District Cross Country Championships.

First to run was club captain Pollard in the men’s invitational 4K race. He started off at the back of the field and, as the race wore on, gradually worked his way through the field to eventually finish in 16th place overall. As first Scot, he clocked a time of 13.08 in the very windy conditions.

Oslo Dream Mile winner Andy Baddeley of Harrow took the win in this event for the second year in a row in a time of 12.17. In the longer men’s race over 8.9K, Inverclyde’s duo of Craig Ruddy and Chris MacKay finished quite close to one another at the end of the race, with Ruddy, competing for Scottish Universities, just finishing ahead of his club team-mate in 32nd, clocking a time of 29.27.
