Cut the speed limit

Comment Bubble Comments (0) Printer Print Article

IF the recent change to the speed limit over the Lyle Hill has been correctly done by the council, I hope our councillors will have a rethink and take steps to have this reversed.

Apart from the existing problems with speeding, this road will become part of the route to school for many pupils when the new school opens at Bay Hill, and children from the Mallard Crescent area are also soon to be zoned to Ardgowan Primary School.

Surely, in the interests of all of their safety, the entire stretch should be at a 30mph limit, if not less?

Last year, with safety in mind, Greenock Academy parents obtained a verbal assurance from the council that consideration would be given to putting street lighting over the Lyle Hill before the new school opens, but this speed limit change is surely a backward step.
