IN Parliament recently, Nicola Sturgeon MSP, announced an independent public inquiry will take place into people who contracted Hepatitis C and HIV following blood transfusions.

This is a positive step which I welcome and commend the Scottish Government for taking this course of action.

I’m sure all of those affected will welcome this announcement and the inquiry, which is to be chaired by Lady Cosgrove.

Once again I feel the Government is taking the right steps in dealing with difficult situations such as they did over the issue of pleural plaques.

Since I last wrote in the Telegraph two weeks ago, I have been informed Stephen’s High School finished in fifth place for their Question Time in Schools event.

Apparently, the decision was extremely tight and the judges decided, by the narrowest of margins, to place them fifth.

I have also been informed that because it was so close, two students from St Stephen’s High School will still be able to attend and take part in the production of the Question Time event in London on 11 July after all.

I hope the pupils enjoy their time in London and enjoy the experience. They have earned it. Well done.

Finally, I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate Morton for maintaining their place in the First Division.

The team battled hard and I’m sure we all hope we will be challenging at the other end of the table next season.
