Initiative benefits health
By Stuart McMillan
The recent announcement by the Government that schools should provide a minimum of two hours of physical education per week is a welcome initiative.
This will stand the 5,795 primary pupils in Inverclyde in good stead for achieving a healthier and more balanced lifestyle and I believe will lead to added health benefits in later life.
Let’s hope this initiative will lead our young people to fulfil their potential and remove the stigmas which have been attached to Scotland and our health for generations.
Last week I welcomed representatives from the Inverclyde Community Care Forum to Parliament. All those who attended were happy to visit the Parliament and for the opportunity to sit down and discuss a range of issues affecting Inverclyde.
It was important for me to hear at first hand the issues organisations in Inverclyde have and, hopefully, I can help with some of them.
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the group and hope they enjoyed First Ministers Question Time.
I look forward to working more closely with the group in the future.
The tragic disasters in Burma and China have shocked the world.
More than one and a half million people have been left homeless in Burma and around 71,000 people in China are dead, buried or missing.
The need for aid and support is vital and I would hope all Telegraph readers can give what they can to the DEC appeal at www.DEC.org.uk or call 0870 60 60 900.
