JAMES and Elizabeth Pollard of Greenock are very proud of their granddaughter Jenna who is repaying a debt of gratitude for life-saving cancer treatment.

Four years ago, Jenna, who lives in Newport, Wales, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 23.

She received treatment at the Velindre Hospital, Cardiff, and her condition is now in remission.

Jenna vowed to raise money for the hospital to help others hit by cancer.

Earlier this year, Jenna organised a fundraising evening of entertainment and raffles which brought the total she has collected to £3,000.

Jenna was quoted in a newspaper report as saying: “In my eyes the fundraising won’t end. I can’t stop. I am here because of people in that hospital.

“I want to try to make things easier for the staff and for people in the same situation as me.”

Jenna’s father James went to Jersey to work and that is where he met his wife-to-be, Susan.

They were married in Jersey and later moved to Susan’s native Wales.

Grandmother Elizabeth, said: “We are extremely proud of Jenna. She is a lovely girl.”

She added that Jenna, who has a brother called James, and the family come up from Wales to visit a couple of times a year.
