Councillor Chris Osborne hit out after discovering the public toilets at the park pavilion have been closing earlier than advertised times.

He told the Telegraph: 'I have been contacted by several constituents regarding the toilets in Battery Park.

'There is a notice on the door advising that they are open until 7pm but they have been closing at 4.30pm nearly every day.

'As we all know the Battery is very busy during the summer months, so surely the council has a duty to provide basic facilities during these busy periods?' The councillor, whose ward takes in Battery Park area, called on Inverclyde Council to extend the opening hours as a matter of urgency.

He said: 'One of the constituents who contacted me raised this issue with the council and they were advised there is no money to keep the toilets open until later.

'This is simply not good enough.

'I have contacted the council officials about this and would urge them to take action as soon as possible.' Councillor Osborne added: 'Battery Park is one of Inverclyde"s major assets which attracts people from outwith the area.'
