SUPERMUM Moira Bradley has raised a staggering 50,000 for charity during the past five years. Now she has been short-listed for the Inverclyde Woman of the Year final in recognition of her stunning achievements...

GREENOCK mum Moira Bradley got the surprise of her life when she received a phone call to say she had been short-listed for the final of Inverclyde"s Woman of the Year contest.

Up until that point, Moira had no idea her eight-year-old son, Lee, had even nominated her for the competition.

Moira, 38, who has raised 40,000 for Cash for Kids and a further 10,000 for Ardgowan Hospice, said: 'I like to help people. It makes me happy to know I am making a difference.

'I am embarrassed about being short-listed for Woman of the Year. I don"t do it for the recognition. I just get on with it.

'It is just something I do. I didn"t even know I had been nominated.' While Moira might be modest about her achievements, little Lee is not so shy when it comes to applauding his mum"s endless fundraising efforts.

He said: 'My mum has raised thousands of pounds for charity and I am very proud of her.' Lee, a primary four pupil at Highlanders" Academy, spotted the Woman of the Year competition in the Tele and asked big sister Amanda, 18, who is a student, to help him fill in the entry form.

MOIRA"S fundraising crusades are made all the more impressive by the fact she has a heart condition and a rare genetic disorder that increases the risk of her suffering potentially fatal blood clots.

Moira, of Auchneagh Farm Lane, started off her fundraising efforts with a fashion show.

She roped in pals from T-Mobile - where she works as a customer services adviser - to model underwear from Michelle Mone"s Ultimo range.

Now the underwear giant is among her many friends and contacts.

The fashion show, held in Babylon in Greenock, raised 2,000 for Cash for Kids and Moira - who also modelled at the event herself - was hooked on the buzz she got from her success.

Moira said: 'I loved it. I got Greenock fire station involved and had the firemen walking the girls round the catwalk.

'I also had some of the guys from T-Mobile in tuxedos walking the girls round.' Fundraising for Cash for Kids has secured Moira an invitation to the charity"s annual ball several times, and she has met various celebrities including Ronan Keating, of Boyzone, Marti Pellow, of Wet Wet Wet - who she bumped into in a lift - Sophie Ellis Bextor and Mark Owen, formerly of Take That.

Moira has also rubbed shoulders with model Penny Lancaster, who is married to rock legend Rod Stewart, entertainer Andy Cameron, TV celebrities Carole Smillie and Lorraine Kelly and Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus.

She has also met footballers Barry Ferguson, Neil Lennon and Henrik Larsson but alas, she has yet to meet the one football hero she would most like to.

Moira said: 'I want to meet Ally McCoist because I have always liked him.' She added: 'Sophie Ellis Bextor was really nice. I met her at my first Cash for Kids ball in 2002 and she signed a menu and a card for my daughter, Amanda.

'No one was up dancing and me and my pals got up and Sophie said "thanks to my dancers - the lovely ladies in black", and then everyone got up to dance after us.' Moira, has managed to secure lots of exciting prizes for raffles over the years, including helicopter flights.

But one of the most spectacular was a dinner with Al Gore, the 45th vice president of the United States, and Hans Blix, the first executive chairman of the United Nations monitoring verification and inspection commission, that went under the hammer for 5,000.

Nowadays, Moira doesn"t have to do as much asking, as contacts often approach her to see how they can help.

She said: 'If you don"t ask you don"t get and I have only ever had a "no" once in the five years I have been raising money.

'A lot of companies in Greenock have given me support.' MOIRA is now looking forward to the finals of Woman of the Year and planning her next fundraising venture, which may involve getting the girls at T-Mobile to model for a tasteful calendar.

She said: 'I have made lots of contacts, from billionaires to models, and I am not going to stop fundraising.

'I always say it is my last year but I will never stop.

'People say it is in you and it is true. I love doing it. It gives you a buzz.'
