EMERGENCY services rushed to the scene after a crash involving a bus full of passengers and a car in Greenock yesterday afternoon.

The shocked woman car driver had to be helped from the Vauxhall Corsa before she walked into a waiting ambulance where she was supported by paramedics.

Police said a passenger in the car was also suffering from shock.

Police and two ambulances attended the smash, on the A8 at Port Glasgow Road near to Bogston railway station, at around 12.40pm.

The bus driver was shaken but unhurt by the incident, and went to the aid of the driver by making sure she didn't move from the vehicle until the ambulance had arrived on the scene.

The McGill's bus was carrying several passengers on board at the time, but no one was injured and a replacement vehicle was dispatched to collect them so they could continue on their journey.

A witness said: "The bus driver did the right thing by keeping the driver of the car where she was until the ambulance arrived." A recovery truck later arrived on the scene.

Sergeant Alison Kennedy, of Greenock police, said: "We received a call at 12.39pm to report a collision between a car and a bus near Bogston railway station in Port Glasgow Road, Greenock.

"We believe the car driver and passenger were suffering from shock but no one on the bus was injured."
