CHURCH congregations across the district will be up at the crack of dawn to head to beauty spots across Inverclyde to celebrate Easter Sunday.

As morning breaks, the Greenock Westburn Church will be on top of the Lyle Hill overlooking the Firth of Clyde.

In Port Glasgow, the St Andrew's Parish Church will head to the pier beside Newark Castle for a moving service looking out over the water.

It is the biggest day of the year in the Christian calendar and marks the day that Jesus rose from the dead.

In the seven days that have past, churches around Inverclyde have marked Palm Sunday, the Last Supper and Good Friday.

Churches from across the west end of Greenock joined together for a Good Friday walk of witness.

They showed a united front in the face of sectarianism to worship together.

The group stopped off at stations around the area to celebrate the Christian faith.

Meanwhile, the Inverclyde Christian Initiative is organising an Easter Sunday event in the Greenock Town Hall at night.

Organiser, Pastor Fraser Donaldson, pictured, said: "Easter is a very important part of the Christian calendar, reminding us of the death and resurrection of Jesus.

"We are so aware of the difference that Jesus can make in people's lives that we want to provide these special opportunities for people to come and find it for themselves.

"We would love to see many in Inverclyde touched with the truth of the Easter message." In similar style to their 'transformed' events, they will give people an opportunity to hear the Easter message for themselves.

Christians will talk about faith, healing and being set free from addiction.

Music will be provided by a number of local churches with the Inverclyde Healing Rooms also open. The event starts at 8.30pm.
