Intimate gig with guitar star Richard AN INTIMATE acoustic gig from a local singer songwriter has been scheduled for later this month.

Port Glasgow man Richard Gallacher, above, will play a stripped-back set of his music at the town's Boglestone Community Centre on 29 June.

Just 30 seats are being made available for the show and tickets are due to go on sale tomorrow morning.

They will be available from Dubbs Road Post Office, priced 2.

His melodic sounds cover a lot of subject matter, mostly from experience.

Richard said: "I've been working on my set list for a while. It's a very intimate gig and it truly is unplugged - just me and my acoustic guitar." For samples of Richard's music, visit www.jango.com and search for Richard Gallacher.

Watercolours show A NEW display of landscapes in Inverclyde will go on show at the McLean Museum.

The showcase will contain several watercolours by local favourite Patrick Downie, in addition to works by other artists.

The watercolours can only be exhibited under controlled conditions for a short time because of their sensitivity to light.

Experts say the small display provides a perfect opportunity to view the works as a group.

Climb bid for charity A GREENOCK fitness instructor is close to achieving her goal of taking 100 Inverclyde folk to the top of Ben Lomond on Saturday.

Ninety-six people have already committed to the trek, which will raise cash for the local children's charity, Dreams Come True.

Organiser Lauren O'Donnell is confident four more will come forward before the weekend.

Lauren said: "We only have four spaces left on the bus, which is great.

"I am still hoping to get 100 - I'm really delighted with the response.

"I think there will be four people who have been thinking about it who will sign up." Lauren added that walkers do not need to have had any prior experience of hill-walking before, as participants will be split into teams with leaders who will ensure everyone is well looked after and allowed to walk at their own pace.

Lauren, who works at the Waterfront Fitness Gym, said: "A lot of the walkers have never done a Munro before and a few haven't done one for years.

"Most folk are talking part because they think it is a good cause and it will be a good day out with a good team atmosphere." She added: "We have the t-shirts ordered, the hill guides ready and everything. We are good to go." Anyone who would like to join in the walk should contact Lauren immediately on 715788.
