PORT Glasgow Victoria boxer Grant Quigley was boxing in Liverpool last weekend defending his British championship.

He was boxing Welsh champion Andrew Bird in the final on Saturday. Grant was beaten on a count back by 15-14 after the fight ended in a draw.

Bird was never in the contest, he was running and wrestling for three rounds and somehow the judges managed to give him the fight.

It was a really bad decision for Grant who thought he had won well as he was winning every round. The crowd were booing the descion as it was the worst result of the day.

Both boxers had been deducted points. Grant was getting frustrated with the Welsh boxer for constantly holding and he was docked points for it.

Club coach Kenny Crighton says the Welsh boxer should have been disqualified for his poor performance and constantly grabbing and holding. Grant feels he was robbed of his third British title.

Grant boxed on the Friday afternoon boxing English champion K. Miah.

Grant was a mile ahead in this fight again and this time managed a 34-14 points win. This was an impressive win with Grant almost scoring at will with some nice head and body combinations.

On a positive note, the Great Britain team coach also watched Grant over the weekend and agreed with the crowd that the Port man was badly robbed and has invited him down for trials with Team GB in Sheffield this coming weekend.
