Handed in lost �100 A GREENOCK pensioner has thanked a good samaritan who handed in her lost �100 to police.

The local woman dropped an envelope filled with the cash in the Lidl car park in Greenock on Monday as she made her way into the store.

The pensioner said she thought she had lost the money for good but a call to police revealed it had been picked up by a kind hearted shopper and taken to Greenock police office.

The woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, told the Telegraph: "I would like to thank this person very much for handing the envelope and money to police.

"It is a lot of money and I am very glad I have it back."

b>Bowl centre reopen date INVERCLYDE Leisure's Indoor Bowling Centre will re-open on Monday 3 September for the 2012/13 season.

Subscriptions are now due and can be paid at the following Inverclyde Leisure facilities: Waterfront Leisure Complex, Lady Octavia Sports Centre, Ravenscraig Sports Centre, Boglestone Community Centre, Battery Park Pavilion, Birkmyre Park Pavilion and Port Glasgow Pool.

All subscription fees must be paid by 31 August.

b>Indoor beach LOCAL youngsters can escape the wet weather at an indoor beach set up in Greenock's Oak Mall.

The Enchanted Forest Nursery group are behind the fun event which is open to children aged 10 and under.

The beach is open from 11am to 4pm today.


b>Opera show OLD Gourock and Ashton Parish Church and Glasgow Light Opera Club are teaming up for a fundraising concert in aid of their funds.

'Showstoppers Past and Present' will take place on Saturday 25 August at 7.30pm within the church.

Tickets are priced �10 for adults, �8 for concessions (seniors, students, unwaged) and this includes refreshments during the interval.

b>Store will rehome pets A NEW pet store set to open in Greenock next week will help to rehome abandoned animals.

The new Pets at Home branch at the Waterfront Retail Park will include an adoption centre.

Unwanted pets - including rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters - will be taken in from local rehoming charities in a bid to find them new homes.

The national company is also looking to team up with local pet charities through the store's own charity Support Adoption For Pets.

Staff at the Greenock store hope to help rehome animals and also fundraise for the local causes.
