RED nosed runners across Inverclyde will set off on a superhero race to raise cash for Comic Relief.

On Saturday, streets up and down the district will be awash with caped crusaders, iron men and wonder women as the Inverclyde Leisure Red Nose Day run takes place.

Dozens of competitors will line up at Birkmyre Fitness Gym in Kilmacolm before flying all the way down to Gourock Fitness Gym on a near 12-mile trip in aid of the appeal fund.

Runners will be dressed as their favourite superhero as they aim to raise a fortune - and a few laughs at the same time.

Waterfront Leisure Centre fitness adviser David MacGregor, pictured, got into the spirit of the race early as he donned a Superman suit to promote the fun run.

Registration for the race is at 9am on Saturday at the Kilmacolm gym and runners will then be free to take whatever route they wish to the finish line in Gourock.

They must, however, check-in at gyms in Boglestone Community Centre, the Waterfront and Greenock Sports Centre along the way.

Waterfront senior fitness adviser and event organiser, Lauren O'Donnell, said: "It's shaping up to be good fun.

"The challenge is to run from Birkmyre Fitness Gym in Kilmacolm to Gourock Fitness Gym, stopping in at check points outside Boglestone, Waterfront and Greenock Fitness Gyms.

Participants may run any route they wish and stop in at centres in any order before crossing the finish line at Gourock.

"Those taking part may complete the run solo or alternatively enter as a team of up to a maximum of four runners."

Lauren is urging those interested in taking part to sign up quickly and guarantee their special superhero t-shirt and red nose before they run out.

The entry fee is 15 per person and includes a special 'I'm a real Superhero for Comic Relief' t-shirt and Comic Relief Red Nose, which participants will receive on the day.

All proceeds from the race go to the charity.

Lauren said: "It would be great to involve the wider community in such an event for such a good cause."

To take part, simply fill in a registration form and pick up a sponsorship sheet from any Inverclyde Leisure fitness gyms.
