FINAL preparations are taking place to ensure tomorrow's opening of Gourock's historic outdoor pool for 2013 will be a splash hit.

A family fun day will get the season under way and YOUR Radio will be broadcasting live from the famous Albert Road attraction throughout, providing music and a pool party atmosphere.

Local acts from the Megastars talent competition will also be performing live on stage.

The open day will include free taster sessions of some of pool's popular classes, like mini water polo and aqua aerobics.

There will also be games, prizes and giveaways before the day is rounded off with a fun session and diving board contest.

Marc McFarlane, pool manager, said: "We are inviting everyone to come down to the re-opening of Gourock Pool.

"Our open day is full of fun games and activities for all the family."

Last year, the pool proved more popular than ever after it re-opened its doors following a 1.8 million refurbishment.

The venue was packed on a daily basis with swimmers and those keen to keep fit at its new gym - and bosses promise there will be even more to look forward to in the coming months.

Manager Marc said: "In 2012 we introduced mini water polo classes for children, which were highly successful.

"This year we are proud to be offering these classes again and are also re-introducing kayaking lessons.

"Our midnight swims proved to be so popular and such was the demand last year that we have increased these to every week during the school summer holidays, with a final midnight swim planned in September."

Staff have been hard at work this week in preparation for the open day and have been undertaking rigorous training, ensuring that Gourock Pool continues to offer a safe and enjoyable environment, as recently highlighted with its European Pool Safety Award.

Gourock Outdoor Pool's 'big jump in' takes place from noon tomorrow.
