A HOT hairdresser who has styled for the stars has opened up a business in Port Glasgow.

Calum Paul, 23, spent six years training with one of the best in the business — the legendary Taylor Ferguson.

Calum’s first customers were his grandmother Mary and dad Charlie — who got a free makeover in recognition of all their support over the years.

Mary, 78, said: “I’m delighted for him — I’m very proud.” It was a very special occasion for Calum’s dad — as it was a day he never thought he would see after suffering horrific head, arm and leg injuries in a motorcycle accident two years ago.

His wife Moira said: “I didn’t think he was going to make it that day.” But thankfully Charlie is now back to health and the family are celebrating Calum’s venture, which has also created two new jobs in the town.

Calum, who gave up a place at university studying accountancy to train with the prestigious salon, has had a catalogue of celebrity clients in his career so far.

This includes no fewer than four Miss Scotland’s, singer and TV presenter Michelle McManus, TV decorating duo Colin and Justin and several footballers including former Rangers and current Morton star Nacho Novo.

Calum, of Madeira Street in Greenock, said: “He was really nice and quite shy.

“I hoping for some repeat business now that he’s signed for Morton!

“Michelle McManus was lovely too — we were meant to be looking after her but she was always more concerned about looking after us.” Calum’s mum Moira says she is delighted at the fringe benefits from her son’s profession.

She quipped: “I’m thrilled — who wouldn’t want a son as a hairdresser?

“I’ve never had so many different colours and styles!”
